Tigers will battle Crushers for second spot
THE West Tigers and Islands Electric Lautoka Crushers will battle for the second position with two more rounds of the Vodafone Cup Western Conference competition remaining.
The Saru Dragons have virtually sealed the top spot after being unbeaten in 12 rounds of the competition.
The Tigers face Malawai Sea Eagles while the Crushers will take on defending champions Sigatoka Electric Sabeto Roosters at Churchill Park in Lautoka tomorrow.
The Tigers are one of the four the new clubs in the Western Conference. The side coached by former Fiji National Rugby League development officer Ilisoni Rogoyawa includes Fiji Bati winger Viliame Cagibula.
The team is mostly made up of players who featured in the FNRL junior competition previously.
FNRL Western Conference development officer Lagilagi Golea said the Tigers were the top pick from the newcomers.
He said the other new clubs including the Naviyago Sharks, Nadi Raiders and Sea Eagles had fared well so far.
"The Tigers are superior than the other three new clubs because of their wealth of experience," Golea said.
"The new clubs have been trying hard to lift their standard. They have done well against the stronger teams like the Roosters, Dragons and the Crushers. Give them a couple more seasons and they will be right at the top."
The Vodafone Cup Western Conference competition will kick off at 8am with the junior grade.
