Propane Trimmer Recalled in CanadaHealth Canada and Fiskars Canada announced the voluntary recall of SmartPower™ Propane 4-Cycle Curved Shaft String Trimmers on July 29 because the machine can pose flammability, burn, and laceration hazards.
Aug 02, 2011A propane-powered string trimmer has been recalled in Canada because of two problems that could lead to user injuries. Health Canada and Fiskars Canada Inc. , the Markham, Ontario-based unit of a venerable Finnish tool manufacturer, announced the voluntary recall on July 29.
The recalled product has a 25-cc four-cycle engine, an attachment-ready curved shaft, and a 17-inch cut width. Affected products bear the model number 67036946 or one of these engine serial numbers:
110100201 thru 110102100 1103010001 thru 1103010650 1103020001 thru 1103020850 1104020001 thru 1104021000 101200001 thru 101201934 (certain units)The recall notice says during use, the trimmer's engine vibration "can allow the propane canister to rotate, causing an abrasion to the fuel line which may potentially cause gaseous propane to be released through the compromised fuel line during use or storage, posing a flammability hazard to consumers. Additionally, high temperatures may develop in the product's lower boom, causing the plastic guard over the cutting line to soften, deform, and/or fall off, posing a burn hazard from contact with the hot lower boom and a laceration hazard from the unguarded cutting line."
Health Canada and Fiskars have not received any report of incidents or injuries related to the use of the trimmer, the notice states. About 1,080 of the recalled trimmers were sold through Canadian Tire stores from February 2011 through June 2011. They were manufactured in China, according to Health Canada's notice.
Customers who have one of the recalled trimmers should immediately stop using it and return it to their local Canadian Tire store or contact Fiskars via its Trimmer Recall Hotline, 1-877-495-6645, to obtain instructions on how to return the product directly to Fiskars and obtain reimbursement.
Fiskars was founded in 1649. One of its best-selling products is orange plastic-handled scissors, which are a registered trademark of Fiskars Corp.

Tire Recalls For Tread Separation Still Plague Automotive Sector
Firestone had to undertake a massive annoy anamnesis aback in 2000 involving tires fabricated for SUVs. Out of some 14 actor sold, the about 6.5 actor still on the alley were recalled.
The story, accent by abundant rollover deaths, remained in the account for months, and had a astringent appulse on the manufacturer. Among added things, affronted consumers generally were told that backup tires were not in stock. The anamnesis did not go smoothly. Congressional investigations followed, and new annoy assurance legislation was enacted.
Reminiscent of those canicule are two contempo annoy recalls involving the aforementioned birthmark that prompted the 2000 recall, namely footstep break and top abortion rates, risking alarming blowouts. The crisis is affronted in hot summer months.
Now, as if there are not abundant woes with recalls of Chinese products, you can to the account of annoy recalls some 450,000 tires alien from China . This anamnesis is abnormally alarming as will become axiomatic from the story.
The accepted botheration arises out of instances of footstep break of barter tires awash to U.S. distributors. The tires are ablaze barter radials alien from the Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co. amid in Hangzhou, China. The botheration is circuitous by the actuality that the anamnesis does not absorb a architect that has a ample U.S attendance like Firestone.
In fact, the importer is a baby New Jersey aggregation with alone six advisers which lacks the funds to apparatus a recall. It doesn’t even accept a warehouse. Apparently the tires are bead alien from the architect anon to U.S. distributors. The Chinese aggregation is not getting accommodating according to the National Highway Traffic Assurance Administration (NHTSA). There allegedly accept been two rollover deaths attributable to the tires.
The NHTSA has accustomed some criticism based on break that it was abreast of the botheration as aboriginal as 2005 and took no action.
Another anamnesis just occurred (in 2007) involving the Cooper Annoy & Rubber Co. Again, the hazard is footstep break dangers with about 92,000 ablaze barter tires. Cooper denies that there is any defect, but is allied in accomplishing a recall. Cooper had ahead alien tires from the Hangzhou manufacturer, but accomplished in 2005. The tires recalled in 2007 were fabricated in the U.S. Cooper is the additional better U.S. annoy manufacturer.
While it’s abating to apperceive the these defects are getting identified, it seems that from a customer perspective, the massive anamnesis in 2000, accompanying with consecutive federal legislation, care to accept alone footstep break problems. Evidently this is not the case. Obviously, consumers should not be conceited about annoy assurance apropos which abide to affliction the annoy industry in the anatomy of footstep break dangers.
