EPCOT  - Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow

Now not many people know this, but the original concept for  EPCOT  was to be a futuristic, real working city.

Walt Disney envisioned a city that was continuously growing and inventing new, industrious, futuristic ways to make the world a better place.

After Walt’s passing, the Imagineers (responsible for designing and building theme parks, cruise ships, and resorts in a creative way) realized that without Walt, this was a difficult concept to make come to life. So what could they do to make the idea of EPCOT practical, but still true to Walt’s concept? The EPCOT Center theme park.  

EPCOT  originally opened on October 1, 1982 with two different parts:  Future World  and the  World Showcase . Since there is so much to explore, we’re going to begin with Future World. Meant to explore modern technology, the wonders of the environment, and the excitement of the future, this front half of the park can never be boring. Although it’s changed dramatically since it’s opening, and may not be as “futuristic” as it used to be, it is still an amazing journey and imaginative exploration to see what  Future World  beholds.  

Originally,  Future World  opened with  Spaceship Earth, World of Motion, Universe of Energy, Communicore, Imagination, The Living Seas, Horizons,  and  The Land.  Can you guess the ones that are still there today?

Now if you’ve been to EPCOT before, you’ve probably noticed a giant silver thing in the shape of a golf ball? That’s  EPCOT ’s icon, and what we like to call  Spaceship Earth .

Would you believe that inside that gigantic sphere that there’s a ride?

I know, way too cool.  Spaceship Earth  takes you through a journey from the beginning of time to present day, and what the future may hold. Definitely something cool to check out. One cool fact about  Spaceship Earth ? It’s made of 11,324 triangles, just in case anyone asks.  

Now to one of the most popular rides at the Walt Disney World Resort, and definitely in EPCOT:  Soarin’. 

Take a ride and enjoy the beautiful sights and smells of California on this high flying adventure. You really do feel like you’re flying right over California! It’s definitely one of my favorite attractions.
